여기서 buck은 책임을 뜻합니다. 포커 게임에서 생겨난 표현입니다. Buck은 여러 가지 뜻 가운데 카드 놀이에서 패를 돌릴 차례가 된 사람 앞에 놓는 표를 말하는 건데요, 옛날에는 포커 게임에서 딜러의 역할을 나타내기 위해 칼의 손잡이 buckhorn handle 사슴뿔로 만든 손잡이, 보통 사슴뿔 모양의 칼의 손잡이가 사용이 됐습니다. 이 칼을 그냥 buck이라고 불렀다고 합니다. 그래서 이 buck을 넘겨 준다는 것이 책임과 의무를 전가한다는 의미로 굳어졌습니다.
