미국 인도·태평양 사령부는 16일 북한의 미사일 발사 직후 발표한 성명에서 “우리는 탄도미사일 발사 사실을 알고 있고 동맹·파트너와 긴밀히 협의하고 있다”고 밝혔습니다.
[인도·태평양 사령부 성명] “We are aware of the ballistic missile launches and are consulting closely with our allies and partners. While we have assessed that this event does not pose an immediate threat to U.S. personnel or territory, or to our allies, these missile launches highlight the destabilizing impact of the DPRK’s illicit weapons program. The U.S. commitment to the defense of the Republic of Korea and Japan remains ironclad.”
그러면서 “이번 발사가 미국 인력이나 영토, 동맹에 대한 즉각적인 위협은 아니라고 평가하지만, 미사일 발사는 북한의 불법 무기 프로그램으로 초래되는 불안정성을 잘 보여준다”고 비판했습니다.
또한 “한국과 일본에 대한 미국의 방어 공약은 여전히 철통같다”고 확인했습니다.
