도널드 트럼프 대통령은 북한이 비핵화하겠다는 합의를 이뤄냈고 이는 이뤄질 것이라고 밝혔습니다. 지난 8개월간 억류됐던 미국인을 돌려받았고 북한으로부터 어떤 핵이나 미사일 실험을 보지 못했다고 거듭 강조했습니다. 김영남 기자가 보도합니다.
트럼프 대통령은 북한이 모든 것을 비핵화할 것이라는 내용의 매우 훌륭한 문서에 서명했다며 이런 일은 일어날 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “But we signed the very wonderful paper, saying that they are going to denuclearize their whole thing. It is going to happen. But now, I was back I think 6 days why hasn’t it started. Why? These guys …”
트럼프 대통령은 5일 몬타나주에서 열린 공화당 선거 유세에서 북한 문제를 언급하며 이같이 말했습니다.
그러면서 오바마 대통령은 북한과의 전쟁에 아주 가깝게 다가갔다며, 북한과의 국경에서 30마일 떨어진 서울 인구는 3천 만 명에 달한다고 말했습니다.
[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “Obama was very close to go into war. You have 30 million people in Seoul. It is 30 miles off the border. That is the tough border. Thousands of cannons they call, these are big big guns. I am not even talking about nuclear. You could have lost 30, 40, 50 million people. You could have had war like you haven’t had for long time.”
북한과의 국경은 매우 삼엄하다며 (한국을 겨냥하는) 수천 문의 대포들이 있다고 설명했습니다. 이어 전쟁이 일어났다면 3천 만에서 5천 만이 숨졌을 수 있고 오랫동안 겪어보지 못한 종류의 전쟁이 벌어졌을 수 있다고 덧붙였습니다.
그러면서 지난 8개월간 북한의 추가 핵, 미사일 실험이나 다른 어떤 일도 일어나지 않았다고 말했습니다.
[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “Guess what you have now. 8 months, no nuclear testing, no missile, no anything. Mike Pompeo is over there right now. And they say, these guys crooked press, they are so dishonest. They are so dishonest. Fake news, they are fake news.”
또한 북한과 매우 강력한 수사를 주고 받을 당시 언론은 자신이 너무 거칠다고 비판하면서 전쟁을 일으킬 것이라는 식으로 보도했다고 지적했습니다.
[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “So since the rhetoric stopped, very tough rhetoric. So remember? They said he is too tough. He is going to cause the war. He is too tough. Now they are saying he is too nice, too nice. I got along very well with Chairman Kim, we got along very well. That is the good thing that we got along very well. Now what hasn’t happened in 8 months, in 8 months, first of all we got our prisoners back before I even went. And I didn’t pay $1.8 billion by the way in cash, we didn’t pay 1.8, we paid slightly less than that, we paid nothing. And yet, it was very smart deal for North Korea. Good will is very important.”
하지만 지금에 와서는 자신이 너무 착하다고 비판한다고 꼬집었습니다.
트럼프 대통령은 김정은 위원장과 매우 잘 어울렸고 잘 어울리는 것은 좋은 일이라고 말했습니다.
이어 지난 8개월간 어떤 일이 일어났느냐며 우선 싱가포르에 가기도 전에 북한에 억류됐던 죄수들을 돌려받았다고 말했습니다. 그러면서 자신은 (전임 정권과 달리) 이를 위해 18억 달러를 현금으로 지불하지 않았으며 아무것도 지불하지 않았다고 강조했습니다.
또 이는 북한으로서도 매우 똑똑한 합의였다며 선의는 매우 중요한 부분이라고 덧붙였습니다.
트럼프 대통령은 또 자신이 아무것도 양보하지 않자 언론들은 자신이 회담을 위해 싱가포르에 간 것을 두고 비판한다며, 그 밖에 다른 이유를 댈 수 없었기 때문이라고 말했습니다.
[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “So what are they saying all the time because I didn’t give anything up? What are they saying all the time? They say he went there. I went there. I went to Singapore. We had a meeting. By agreeing to meet, because they couldn’t come up with anything else.”
이어 무언가를 줬을 클린턴 대통령이나 오바마 대통령과 달리 자신은 북한에 아무것도 주지 않았다고 거듭 강조했습니다.
[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “I didn’t give like Clinton and like Obama would have. You know Obama couldn’t meet. They wouldn’t see him. So I didn’t do like Clinton where they gave billions and billions of dollar and got nothing. So they couldn’t find anything. So what do they do? They say he met. That is what we lost folks.”
이어 오바마 대통령은 북한과 만날 수도 없었고 북한이 만나려 하지도 않았을 것이라고 설명했습니다. 그러면서 자신은 수십 억 달러를 북한에 주고 아무것도 얻지 못한 클린턴 대통령 같이 하지 않았다고 주장했습니다.
또한 오바마 대통령은 북한과 만나고 싶어했겠지만 북한이 만나려 하지 않았을 것이라고 거듭 말했습니다.
[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “By the way, Obama would have loved to have met. They wouldn’t see him. They wouldn’t see him. One of the first questions I asked when I was over there, they wouldn’t see him. So I met. That is how we got beaten.”
싱가포르에 갔을 때 북한 측에 처음 질문한 것들 중 하나가 이것이었으며 북한은 (오바마 대통령과) 만나지 않으려 했다고 덧붙였습니다.
