Wimbledon tennis champion Maria Sharapova has come back from a loss in the first set to defeat fourth-seeded Alicia Molik of Australia and win the Qatar Open tournament in Doha.
The second-seeded Russian teenager defeated Molik 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 Saturday to claim the title and jump to number-three in the world rankings.
Molik, who had shocked top-seeded Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo to make it to the finals, looked strong in the opening set. But Sharapova battled back to grab a unassailable 5-0 lead in the second set. The young Russian then made the key break in the fifth game of the third set to go up 4-2, before going on to win 6-4.
It was Sharapova's second win of the season, after capturing the Pan Pacific Open title in Japan last month.
