A 2018 World Bank working paper revealed that women are significantly less likely to own land and housing property. Using data from 28 sub-Saharan African countries, the paper finds that gender gaps in property ownership result in 20 million fewer women having any housing ownership in sub-Saharan Africa. Anne Rweyora founded Smart Havens Africa, a social enterprise which aims to provide a sustainable, affordable pathway home ownership for women low-income families in Uganda. She spoke to Simegnish Yekoye about the mission of Smart Havens Africa and how their hope is to bring down housing poverty. Ms. Rweyora shares how she continues to use eco-friendly technologies to create affordable housing opportunities for vulnerable communities.
