A roadside bomb killed two civilians in Afghanistan's capital on Tuesday in the latest violence to hit Kabul.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the explosion, which wounded three others.

Daily attacks around the country - often claimed by the Taliban - are marking a bloody countdown to the withdrawal of tens of thousands of NATO troops by the end of the year.

New President Ashraf Ghani faces a relentless insurgency, with the Taliban admitting to two attacks on Monday that killed 23 people.

Among at least four attacks on Monday, 22 people died in a Taliban ambush on police in the northern province of Sar-e-Pul and a suicide car bomber struck a NATO convoy in Kabul, killing one civilian.

Also on Monday, villagers in Paktia province accused NATO of killing seven civilians in an air strike.
