We’re busting out the five most popular songs in the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart, for the week ending October 4, 2014.

For the third week in a row, we’re hearing only female voices in the Top Five. As Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin once sang, “Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves.”

Let’s open in fifth place, where Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora backtrack a slot with “Black Widow.” Rita seemed destined for stardom from birth: she’s named after her grandfather’s favorite Hollywood star, Rita Hayworth. She was 17 when Jay-Z signed her to his Roc Nation label, and her first U.S. album arrives in January.

Nicki Minaj pulls back a slot to fourth place with “Anaconda,” from her upcoming album The Pinkprint…it’s out on November 24. Two weeks earlier - November 9, to be exact - Nicki will be in Glasgow, Scotland, hosting and performing at the MTV Europe Music Awards ceremony. She earned four nominations, tying her with Eminem, Iggy Azalea, One Direction, and Sam Smith.

Back in August, Nicki performed our third-place song at the MTV Video Music Awards…in fact, it opened the show.

She collaborates with Jessie J and Ariana Grande on “Bang Bang", one of two tracks on our Top Five co-written and co-produced by Max Martin. The Swedish native has enjoyed an incredible run of hits dating back to the mid-1990s…in fact, he’s compiled the third-most U.S. number one hits of all time, with 18. Max only trails Paul McCartney and John Lennon.

His latest chart-topper continues to reside in second place: it’s Taylor Swift, with “Shake It Off.” Is Taylor a diva? One New York limo company thinks so…and is suing her for breach of contract. The suit claims Taylor dropped them, even after they agreed to lease two additional vehicles to shuttle the singer and her entourage around town. The contract also reportedly contained directions on when and how drivers were to address Miss Swift.

Meghan Trainor remains in the driver’s seat with “All About That Bass,” which rules the Hot 100 for a third week. Over in the United Kingdom, it becomes the first song to crack the Top 40 on streams alone. It receives its first full U.K. sales release next week.…and we'll be here telling you what happens!
