Syrian Children Locked in Cage in Protest Echoing IS Video
Opposition activists in Syria have made a dramatic re-enactment of the violent death of Jordanian pilot Moaz al-Kasasbeh, in a stunt designed to draw the world’s attention back to atrocities being committed by the regime of Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian president. During a protest in the town of Douma, near Damascus, children dressed in orange jumpsuits stood huddled together inside a metal cage. A flaming torch burned nearby. The image was designed to recall a video released by the Islamic State terrorist group showing them placing captured First Lieutenant Kasasbeh, the 26-year-old Jordanian air force pilot, in a cage and burning him alive.
