Effort Underway to Restore, Preserve Old Lighthouses

For centuries, lighthouses guided ships safely through reefs and rocky passages to port. But 20th century breakthroughs in navigation technology, such as radar and satellite-based GPS, have made them obsolete. Hundreds of these once life-saving buildings along the U.S. shores were abandoned, fell into disrepair or were destroyed. In the Great Lakes region devotees are fighting to preserve these beautiful architectural objects. VOA’s George Putic reports.
