Nigerian Foreign Minister on Government Strategy to Evacuate Nationals from Ukraine
Since the Russian invasion in Ukraine, it has been reported that more than 1,300 Nigerian citizens have been evacuated. Authorities say that 8,000 Nigerian citizens, including 5,600 students, were in the country at the time of the invasion. VOA’s Amina Aliyu spoke to Geoffrey Onyeama, Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, about the government’s strategy to retrieve thousands of nationals back to Nigeria after fleeing the war in Ukraine. Geoffrey discusses how students were safely evacuated from neighboring countries including Romania, Poland, and Hungary with the help of embassy officials. He also shares a message with Nigeria students and remains supportive of those who wish to continue their education and study aboard.
