Scenes From Sinjar, Iraq
- By VOA News
Iraqi Kurdish President Massoud Barzani declared Friday that Kurdish fighters have seized Sinjar from Islamic State militants who had controlled the Iraqi town for more than a year. Kurdish forces say they encountered little resistance during Friday's advance on Sinjar, suggesting IS fighters may have retreated, or are biding their time. About 7,500 Kurdish fighters are involved in fight for Sinjar. Peshmerga forces reportedly entered city "from all directions" to clear remaining IS fighters.
