Trucks carrying tanks of medical oxygen were making their way to hospitals across India, Saturday, April 24, with the government using planes and trains to move as many as possible as India set a new daily record for new coronavirus cases.

Patients with severe breathing difficulties and their anxious family members were seen gathering at hospital gates, only to be turned away as medical facilities ran short of beds and oxygen.

The country's coronavirus infections rose by 346,786 overnight, the health ministry said on Saturday and deaths rose by 2,624. The country of around 1.3 billion has now recorded a total of 16.6 million cases, including 189,544 deaths.
