First COVID, Then Government, Spoil the Party in Russia
The COVID pandemic has ruined much of the summer partying for which Russia’s second largest city, St. Petersburg, is known. Now, a new city law is adding to that by banning the sale of alcoholic beverages in small, informal bars. In this report narrated by Luis Ramirez, Ricardo Marquina in St. Petersburg says the measure is aimed at fighting problematic, cheap joints in the suburbs but it is also threatening hundreds of small bars that characterize the picturesque city center.
