First lady Michelle Obama gave a forceful, impassioned defense of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, casting her as the only candidate who can be trusted as a role model for the nation's children. Obama was among the power lineup of speakers taking the stage in Philadelphia at the Democratic National Convention. The convention’s first day was embroiled in controversy over leaked emails that showed how party leaders sought to ease Clinton's path to the nomination by mocking her challenger, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

Cummings, in mentioning Black Lives Matter, gets huge cheer from the crowd. He stresses Dems are party of unity and not division. Crowd is chanting "No TPP," (Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal) upsetting Cummings' speech.

Cummings struggles to finish his speech amid chants. Crowd finally quits chanting and gets behind Cummings as he says the election is bigger than Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. "It's bigger than all of us. It's about generations not yet born." Urges delegates to go out and vote and "lift up the American people."
