LIVE BLOG: Clinton Becomes First Woman Nominated for President

update

The Democratic Party made it official Tuesday, naming Hillary Clinton their candidate for president in 2016 – and making history by selecting the first woman to represent a major U.S. political party. Following the roll call vote, Tuesday's speakers included former President Bill Clinton as well as the Mothers of the Movement -- the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Sandra Bland and other young black victims of violence.

Albright, who has a famous pin collection, wore a sparkling eagle on her blue dress.

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, in recommending Hillary Clinton for the nation’s top job, said that “in this era, with these threats, we need a leader to keep America strong and safe.”

She recalled traveling with Clinton to Beijing for a 1995 U.N. conference on women, where the then-first lady “courageously stood up and spoke out” on women’s rights and human rights.
