LIVE BLOG: Clinton Becomes First Woman Nominated for President

update

The Democratic Party made it official Tuesday, naming Hillary Clinton their candidate for president in 2016 – and making history by selecting the first woman to represent a major U.S. political party. Following the roll call vote, Tuesday's speakers included former President Bill Clinton as well as the Mothers of the Movement -- the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Sandra Bland and other young black victims of violence.

A video introducing former President Bill Clinton brings a small cheer from the crowd.

Albright said, "Donald Trump has already done damage (to the U.S.) just by running for president. ... He has weakened our standing in the world by threatening to walk away from our allies."

She adds: He "also has a strange admiration for dictators."

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, under former President Bill Clinton from 1997-2001, walks onto the stage.

On the convention floor, VOA's Jim Fry said she brought the crowd to her feet.

Matul said, "Human trafficking is not just happening overseas. It is happening in our backyard."

She says with the growing awareness of human trafficking, she is hopeful this generation of survivors will be the last.
