Iraqi authorities say a series of bomb and shooting attacks across the country killed at least eight people from late Sunday into Monday, mostly Iraqi security personnel.
In the deadliest attacks, a roadside bomb went off in western Baghdad, killing three policemen, while a car bomb exploded in the western town of Fallujah, killing two people, one of them a policeman.
Elsewhere, a roadside bombing killed an Iraqi soldier in the northern city of Mosul, and gunmen killed an Iraqi officer in eastern Baghdad. Gunmen using silencers also killed a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan party in northeastern Iraq's Diyala province.
Iraqi authorities also reported two suicide bombings on Monday.
In one, the assailant wounded five Iraqi security personnel in central Baghdad's Bab al-Muadham district. In the other, the bomber attacked a local government building in the western town of Haditha, wounding a policeman.
Violence in Iraq has dropped sharply since the peak of sectarian violence in 2006 to 2007, but Sunni insurgents and Shi'ite militias continue to carry out bombings and other attacks, many targeting Iraqi security forces.
