Afghan police have killed a suspected Taleban commander during a gunbattle in southern Helmand province.
Officials said Tuesday, that the fighting started Monday when Taleban fighters ambushed a security patrol. They identified the dead commander as Mullah Kabir. A second militant was killed in the clash and 12 others were arrested.
Helmand province has been the scene of several clashes in recent weeks. In late October, at least eight Afghan police were killed in an ambush there.
Meanwhile, in the capital, Kabul, police arrested three men they say were planning a suicide bombing.
