Russian officials say two servicemen and two rebels have been killed, and several others wounded in clashes in the southern republic of Chechnya.
Authorities said Saturday the troop and rebel deaths occurred in fighting Friday in the Chechen capital, Grozny. Officials also say two Russian troops were wounded and two of the guerrillas escaped.
In a separate incident late Friday, officials say three anti-terrorism troops and one policeman were wounded in a mortar attack by rebels in Chechnya's Kurchaloi district, 25 kilometers east of Grozny.
Russian forces have been battling Chechen insurgents for much of the past decade.
