Afghan border police say a suicide car bomber has attacked a police post in southeastern Afghanistan, near the Pakistani border.
There
are conflicting reports about the casualties, but officials said the
attack in Spin Boldak on Thursday wounded at least four police officers
and one civilian. Two reports said one of the policemen later died.
Police
officials said the driver blew up his vehicle as he approached a police
position. Spin Boldak is one of the major border crossing points
between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
A Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility for the attack.
Elsewhere
in southern Afghanistan, NATO says a British pilot suffered minor
injuries when his fighter jet crashed after takeoff in Kandahar
province.
A NATO spokesman says the pilot ejected from the
aircraft and was taken to a medical facility. He said the crash did
not appear to be the result of hostile fire.
