Egypt: Bomb Suspect Has No Al-Qaida Links

Egyptian interrogators have been questioning a biochemist who lives in England about the London bombings, but a senior official says the man has no links to the al-Qaida terror network.

Egypt's interior minister, Habib al-Adly, dismissed as hasty and speculative news reports suggesting Magdy el-Nashar built the bombs that devastated a bus and three London subways on July 7.

In a statement published Saturday, in the newspaper Al Gomhuria, the minister said Mr. el-Nashar "has nothing to do with the al-Qaida organization."

The 33-year-old scientist lives in Leeds, the same city in northern England that was home to three of the suspected London bombers, and reports in Britain say traces of explosives were found in a house he rented.
