Tennis: Mauresmo, Molik Reach Quaterfinals of Diamond Games in Belguim


Top seed Amelie Mauresmo of France and 4th seed Alicia Molik of Australia have won their quarterfinal matches at the $585,000 Proximus Diamond Games WTA tennis tournament in Antwerp, Belgium.

Mauresmo, the tournament's top seed, defeated the No. 7 seed Patty Schnyder of Switzerland 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 Friday setting up a semifinal match against Molik who defeated Klara Koukalova of the Czech Republic, 6-3, 6-4 earlier in the day.

Mauresmo, ranked number 2 in the world, spotted Schnyder the first set and then improved as the 90 minute match went on and wore her opponent down. Molik won her match in just under an hour.

Later today at the Sports Palace, defending tournament champion Kim Clijsters of Belgium takes on two time tournament champion Venus Williams of the United States in a quarterfinal match. Russia's Anastasia Myskina plays Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia in the other quarterfinal still to be played.
