Many in the law enforcement community say they are outraged by the killing of George Floyd and what it has done for the reputation of the thousands of police in the United States who are trying to make a positive contribution to their communities. As calls grow louder for rethinking the concept of public safety through defunding, others are angered by it. Jason Johnson, President of the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund says it it means restructuring to divert resources to domestic violence, addiction and mental health support, that can be helpful. Police are trained in public safety, not these types of situations.
