Opposition Party Confident of Victory in Myanmar Election
- By Steve Herman
Myanmar’s opposition is poised to make history with initial results showing them on the path to a landslide victory. The opposition also was victorious in the 1990 election - but at that time the military refused to recognize the victory and put its leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, under house arrest. VOA Correspondent Steve Herman in Yangon reports supporters of the National League of Democracy are optimistic this time their party will be allowed to take power, as President Thein Sein has promised to respect the election results.
