Surge of Rohingya Fleeing Myanmar For Uncertain Future in Malaysia
With as many as 8,000 migrants adrift in boats off the coasts of Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia, international attention is focusing on the plight of ethnic Rohingya from Myanmar, who make up many of those at sea. Because of persecution in Myanmar, many feel their best hope is to flee to neighboring countries, often at huge risk. Even before this latest wave of migrants, Malaysian authorities had recorded a surge in arrivals late last year. Mahi Ramakrishnan reports from Kuala Lumpur.
