Root Beer: For Many Americans A Taste of Childhood Memories
If you ask someone what the United States' national drink is, they'll probably answer "Coca-cola." But that was not always necessarily true. Root beer -- a carbonated drink brewed primarly from the root of the sassafras plant -- was first popularized in North America, and many Americans remember it fondly from their childhoods. Now -- as Tatiana Vorozhko of VOA's Ukrainian Service tells us -- there are some who think it may be staging a comeback.
