Ajfelov toranj, Sidnejska opera, Brandenburška kapija, Empajer stejts bilding, Akropolj i mnoge druga poznata zdanja bila su mračna u 8.30 sati po lokalnim vremenima u subotu uveče, u okviru Sata Zemlje, godišnjeg poziva na lokalnu akciju protiv klimatskih promena.

Sat Zemlje je akcija koju je pokrenuo Svetski fond za prirodu (WWF).

"Pravljenjem mraka za Sat Zemlje, možemo da pokažemo postojanu obavezu da zaštitimo naše porodice, naše zajednice i našu planetu od opasnih efekata zagrevanja sveta", rekao je Lou Leonard, viši potpredsednik WWF za klimu i energiju. "Rastući zahtevi za energijom, hranom i vodom znače da će se ovaj problem samo pogoršavati, ukoliko ne budemo delovali sada".

Pojedinci i kompanije širom sveta učestvovali su u sat vremena dugoj demonstraciji kako po demonstrirali svoju podršku borbi protiv klimatskih promena i za očuvanje sveta prirode.

WWF saopštava da su "bogat biodiverzitet, raznolikost mreže života koja povezuje zdrave okeane, reke i šume sa razvojem zajednca i nacija - ugroženi".

Fond takođe izveštava da se očekuje da divlja populacija, koju nadzire WWF, "iskusi prosečni pad od 60 odsto za vreme kraće od trajanja životnog veka jedne osobe", te da su "mnoge jedinstvene i vredne vrste u riziku od nestajanja, zauvek".

"Moramo da upitamo sami sebe šta želimo da uradimo nakon što se svetla ponovo upale", rekao je Leonard. "Ukoliko podržimo odlučna rešenja, i dalje imamo vremena da stabilizujemo klimu i zaštitimo naše zajednice i raznolikost života u divljnini, ekosisteme i prirodne resurse koji nas sve održavaju".

"Mi smo prva generacija koja zna da mi uništavamo svet", saopštio je WWF. "Takođe bismo mogli biti poslednja koja može da išta uradi po tom pitanju".
