파키스탄 중부 지역에서 열린 한 결혼식 피로연에서 화재가 발생해 신부를 포함한 여성들과 어린아이등 적어도 27명이 목숨을 잃었다고 경찰이 밝혔습니다.
당국자들은 물탄시로부터 백 킬로미터쯤 떨어진 조크 우트라 마을 부근에서 16일 늦게 열린 결혼식 피로연에서 전기 합선으로 의심되는 화재가 발생해 대형 텐트에 불이 붙자 하객들이 탈출하기 위해 한꺼번에 출구로 몰려드는 바람에 이같은 참사가 발생했다고 전했습니다.
관계자들은 화재가 발생할 당시 백여명의 여성들과 아이들이 노래를 부르고 있었다고 전했습니다. 이 화재로 사망자 외에 30여명이 다쳤으며 일부는 중상인 것으로 알려졌습니다.
당국자들은 사망자 수가 더 늘어날 수도 있다고 말하고 있습니다.

Police in central Pakistan say a fire at a wedding party triggered a stampede that killed at least 27 women and children, including the bride.
Authorities said today (Sunday) that the ceremony was under way late Saturday near the town of Jhok Utra (about 100 kilometers from the city of Multan) when they suspect an electrical short-circuit ignited the wedding tent fabric.
Officials say more than 100 women and children were singing wedding songs inside the tent when it caught fire. Guests stampeded as they fled the fire and caused a nearby wall to collapse on the crowd. More than 30 people were injured, some seriously.
Authorities say the death toll could rise.
