오늘의 영어 표현은: First come, first served입니다.

그럼 먼저 제가 Janet와 나눈 대화 내용을 들어보시겠습니다.
Let’s go ahead and listen to the conversation I had with Janet.

First come, first served
Jen: Have you been to a restaurant that maybe a hostess said “It’s first come first served”?
Janet: Not here in Washington D.C. but in New York City I have.
Jen: Oh in New York City? Okay, what happened?
Janet: They say, “All of you have to wait. You stay here in line and we’ll serve you whenever you come in.”
Jen: So they will serve you whenever you come in.

제가 Janet에게 “First come first served” 인 식당에 가본 적이 있냐고 물어봤더니 뉴욕에서 가본 적이 있다고 말했는데요, 손님이 줄을 서 있으면 먼저 온 순서대로 종업원이 자리를 안내한다고 말했습니다.

대부분 식당은 미리 예약을 해서, 그 시간에 맞춰서 가면 바로 음식을 주문하고 먹을 수 있는데요, 일부 식당은 예약을 받지 않고, 식당에 온 순서로 음식을 주문받습니다. Janet이 뉴욕에서 간 식당이 바로 그런곳인데요, first come, first served. 이죠.

오늘의 영어 표현, First come, first served. 인데요, 말그대로 하면 First come 먼저 오면, first served, 먼저 대접을 받는다는 뜻입니다.

즉 들어온 순서에 따라 주문을 받는다. 선착순이다라는 뜻이죠.

First come, first served // This means that the people who ask for something first will be the ones who get it. It also means the first people to arrive will be able to get the best choices.

먼저 요청한 사람이 그것을 얻는 다, 또는 먼저 온 사람이 먼저 대접받는다고 말하고 싶을 때 바로 first come, first served라는 표현 쓸 수있습니다.
