안녕하세요 English with Yoo! 의 Jennifer Yoo입니다 English with Yoo!

I’ll give you a daily introduction to some meaningful and useful everyday English words and phrases! So let’s get started today!

(Taxi Ride)

오늘의 영어 표현은: give me one second

Voice of America (VOA) is located in our nation’s capital and it’s also located near the beautiful Botanical Garden and the Capitol building. I actually live very to work and I get to appreciate these great beautiful buildings every time I walk to and from work. But the other day I had some heavy items to take home, so I decided to take the taxi home. It sure was a nice short ride home!

Let’s listen to a conversation I had with a taxi driver.

Try to pick out today’s phrase ‘give me one second’. Listen carefully!

Give me one second
01:30
Jen: You want to make a right at the green light over there!
Taxi Driver: make a right turn?
Jen: Yes
Taxi Driver: Thank you.
Jen: And then you can park right behind this car, and that’s my apartment right here.
Taxi Driver: Your fare is $4.89
Jen: Can I get a receipt.
Taxi Driver: Yes, sure.
Jen: Thank you. So $4.89. Let me pay you, give me one second. Yes, I need to pay you. I have a $20 dollar bill here and you can just give me back $15.
Taxi Driver: Come again!

Give, G I V E

‘Give me one second’ – If someone want a few more minutes of time, they would say ‘Give me one second’.
