오늘의 영어 표현은: Be involved but not intrusive….

Universities across America make sure that they get the parents involved during the orientation week and throughout the school year as well.

미국 학부모들은 자녀들이 학교가는 것에 대해 적극적으로 지원하는 편입니다. 거의 대부분의 미국 대학들은 학부모들이 자녀들의 대학생활에 참여할수 있도록 해줍니다.

When students go off to college and leave their parents’ home for the first time, it’s normal for parents to be a little bit nervous for their child. I know my parents were!

학부모들은 자녀들이 집을 떠나 기숙사에 들어갈 때 긴장이 되거나 걱정되는 것이 당연하죠! 제 부모님들께서도 그랬거든요.

Well Debbie, who I mentioned yesterday, is someone who is very familiar with the student –parent life. She gives a good advice to the parents. Let’s listen!

Be involved but not intrusive

Jen: I think that’s what’s so great about the universities here in America -- not only do the students get involved, but parents can take part.

Debbie: Yes, it’s very important for parents to be involved…involved but not intrusive and that’s what we ask the parents to be.

Be involved, help out, but not intrusive, being able to help their students to help themselves.

Debbie씨는 새학기가 시작되면 학부모들이 자녀들을 학교에 잘 적응할수있도록 돕는 것이 참 중요하다고 합니다. “It’s very important for parents to be involved…involved but not intrusive…” 하지만 지나치게 간섭하는 것은 좋지 않다고 하네요…She added that it’s good to help their students to help themselves….

오늘의 영어 표현은: Be involved but not intrusive…이죠?

Involved / I N V O L V E D는 ~연관되어 있다, 관련되있다라는 뜻이고.

Intrusive / I N T R U S I V E 는 간섭하다, 참견하다라는 뜻입니다.

그래서be involved but not intrusive하면 ~함께하지만/~참여하지만 지나치게 간섭하지 않는다 혹은 참견하지 않는다라는 뜻입니다.

Debbie대비는 학부모들에게 필요한 조언을 해줍니다…학생들의 대학생활에 “Involved, 참여하는것은 괜찮지만but not intrusive 지나치게 간섭하고 참견하는 것은 좋지않다”라는 것이죠?

그럼 대화를 다시 들어보겠습니다. Let’s listen to the conversation again.
