New Film Recounts Journalist Elizabeth Becker's Perilous Interview with Pol Pot

"Meeting with Pol Pot" or "Rendez-vous avec Pol Pot," a film by acclaimed Cambodian filmmaker Rithy Panh, is set to make its New York premiere on March 7. This gripping drama is loosely based on the true story of Elizabeth Becker, a renowned American journalist who traveled to Cambodia in the late 1970s to conduct a rare in-person interview with Pol Pot, the notorious leader of the Khmer Rouge regime. Becker's encounter with Pol Pot, who was responsible for the deaths of approximately 1.7 million people, serves as the foundation for Panh's film. Recently, Becker shared her experiences and insights about the film with VOA's Chetra Chap in Washington.
