Indonesian divers have recovered six more bodies from the sea floor near the fuselage of AirAsia Flight 8501 as underwater currents eased long enough for them to explore the area.

The bodies were found strapped in their seats during the search Thursday.

Strong currents have prevented divers from entering the aircraft’s main section, which is sitting at the bottom of the Java Sea about 30 meters below the surface.

So far 59 bodies have been recovered from AirAsia Flight 8501, which plunged into the Java Sea with 162 people while en route from Surabaya, Indonesia's second-largest city, to Singapore.

The jet's "black boxes", the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder, were recovered last week.

Indonesian Transport Minister Ignasius Jonan said this week that the plane climbed abnormally fast before stalling and plunging into the sea.
