Supporters Banned from Meeting Ranariddh

Supporters of Prince Norodom Ranariddh claim FUNCINPEC officials Thursday banned them from meeting with the former party president to talk about the Norodom Ranariddh Party's plan to participate in the upcoming local election.

Prince Ranariddh was ousted by FUNCINPEC party on October 18. He recently formed the Norodom Ranariddh Party and is traveling around the country to gather support for his new party.

Despite the efforts to ban his supporters from seeing him, Ranariddh reportedly succeeded in meeting with about 500 supporters in Siem Reap province.

Ranariddh blames the FUNCINPEC officials for banning people who wanted to see him.

A number of people told VOA that Oum Somuntha, FUNCINPEC deputy governor of Siem Reap, has threatened to strip their positions if they went to see the prince.

Oum Somuntha, FUNCINPEC deputy governor of Siem Reap, denies claims that he has threatened any FUNCINPEC members.

However he says party members are not allowed to participate with another political party unless they have resigned from their party first.
