Di Pangkalan Angkatan Udara Villamor di Manila, pesawat-pesawat C130 yang mengangkut paket-paket bantuan bersiap untuk bergerak menuju Tacloban

Di Filipina bagian tengah, petugas terus berupaya menyampaikan bantuan bagi 600.000 warga yang terkena dampak topan dahsyat Haiyan. Jumlah korban tewas diperkirakan mencapai ribuan jiwa.

Di Pangkalan Angkatan Udara Villamor di Manila, pesawat-pesawat C130 yang mengangkut paket-paket bantuan bersiap untuk bergerak menuju Tacloban, salah satu kota dengan kerusakan paling parah akibat Haiyan di provinsi Leyte.

Beberapa lembaga bantuan mengatakan dibutuhkan waktu tiga kali lebih lama dibanding biasanya untuk mencapai Tacloban, karena banyak jalan darat yang tak dapat dilalui karena tertutup reruntuhan dan pohon-pohon yang tumbang.

Di pangkalan udara yang sama, 400 orang menunggu giliran mereka untuk diangkut pesawat menuju daerah bencana.

Salah satu di antara mereka, Tito Lucinareo, ayah dari dua anak-anak laki-laki dari sebuah kota kecil berjarak 25 kilometer dari Tacloban. Ia mengatakan kedua anaknya selamat, tapi ia tak yakin mereka punya makanan.

Ia mengatakan, "Anda pasti kepikiran apakah anak Anda bisa makan. Apakah mereka lapar?"

Lucinareo, saudara laki-laki dan sepupunya sudah menyiapkan kardus-kardus berisi makanan yang akan ia antarkan.

Banyak warga Tacloban menjarah toko-toko serba ada dan pusat perbelanjaan untuk mencari makanan dan air bersih. Pemerintah Filipina mengatakan, Minggu, mereka akan mengirim tambahan personil militer dan polisi untuk menertibkan daerah bencana tersebut.

Sementara pesawat-pesawat C130 siap-siap untuk berangkat, Sekretaris Kabinet Rene Almendras menyampaikan kepada wartawan berbagai tantangan untuk mencapai daerah bencana. "Banyak detail operasional dan berbagai halangan yang harus dilalui," ujarnya.
