U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is meeting with leaders of some of the most authoritarian countries of Central Asia. On Sunday, he met with officials from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in the ancient Uzbek city of Samarkand, to promote U.S. economic and security cooperation with the five former Soviet republics. The so-called C5+1 meeting is aimed at boosting the U.S. presence in the region, which also is a recruiting ground for terrorist groups. Zlatica Hok
