Nafees Takar
Nafees Takar oversees multimedia broadcasts as the Service Chief for VOA’s Deewa Service. Takar joined the Voice of America in 2006 to launch the newly created Deewa Service that broadcasts to the critical Afghanistan-Pakistan border region. Prior to VOA he worked at the BBC in London. He has also worked as stringer, reporter and producer for Deutsche Welle, The Christian Science Monitor, the Italian news agency ISNA and various newspapers in Pakistan. With over 20-years of experience in journalism, Takar has covered extensively the topic of religious extremism in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Great Britain. In 2015, he moderated a panel discussion with Nobel Peace Laureate and girls’ education activist, Malala Yousafzai, hosted by the Voice of America’s Deewa Radio and Television Service in cooperation with the Newseum. He holds a master’s degree in English Literature and a bachelor’s degree in Muslim History from the University of Peshawar.
