Heather Murdock
Currently VOA's Middle East correspondent based in Istanbul, Heather Murdock has been covering the Middle East and Africa since she began working as a foreign journalist in 2009. She has worked in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Egypt, Yemen, Nigeria, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Ethiopia and covered the European refugee crisis.
Heather has also worked with The Associated Press, The Christian Science Monitor, Bloomberg News, The Washington Times, CBS Evening News, CNN, PRI's The World, The New Statesman, GlobalPost, Radio France International, The Daily Beast and others.
She is the author of the memoir: “Everything is Possible in Yemen: The misadventures of a first time journalist in the Middle East” and an Associated Press Managing Editors "International Perspective" award recipient for stories from Yemen for The Washington Times.
In 2017, Heather was awarded the The David Burke Distinguished Journalism Award for her coverage of the battle with the Islamic State group in Iraq for VOA.
