Officials in Yemen say Shi'ite rebels have captured an army post in northern Yemen, killing at least 10 people and capturing several soldiers in renewed clashes.
Monday's battles took place in the town of al-Zaala, about 120 kilometers north of the capital, Sana'a. They endanger an increasingly fragile truce between government forces and the Shi'ite Houthi rebels.
Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh said on Sunday that he does not want another war with the rebels.
Separately, government officials announced on Monday that army forces in the southern province of Shabwa killed three suspected al-Qaida militants.
The militants were believed to be involved in an assault that killed five soldiers on Thursday. Additionally, six Yemeni troops were killed in a militant attack Sunday in the oil-rich province.
Yemen's government and Shi'ite rebels had agreed to a cease-fire to stop fighting that killed about 70 people last week.
It is not clear why the truce was broken, but reports say Houthi rebels attacked and caused the government-allied Aziz tribesmen to respond.
The cease-fire between the pro-government tribe and Shi'ite rebels was sealed by mediators on Saturday. It called for a halt to fighting and the opening of roads after the removal of roadblocks and mines.
The Houthi rebels complain of socioeconomic and religious discrimination by the government. Officials deny the accusations.
