Ahead of Nigeria's February 14 presidential election, the Voice of America will present a panel discussion on security challenges facing that country.
Boko Haram’s five-year insurgency has intensified in the past year, and the government's handling of the security situation has become a major issue in the election campaign, which pits incumbent Goodluck Jonathan against former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari.
The panel discussion will take place Feb. 5 at 1630 UTC and will be streamed live on www.VOANews.com and www.VOAHausa.com.
The invited participants include:
Representative Karen Bass, (D-CA) who serves on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and is the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations.
Adebowale Ibidapo Adefuye, Nigeria's Ambassador to the U.S.
Steve Schwartz, Director of Nigerian Policy and Operations Group at the U.S. Department of State
John Momoh, Chairman and managing editor of Nigeria's Channels TV
Aminu Gamawa, Legal and Conflict Resolution Consultant
