VOA Mandarin: China’s 2024 lottery sales hit 40-year high

China's 2024 lottery sales reached a record of 620 billion yuan ($84.8 billion), averaging more than 2,000 yuan per person as China is estimated to have about 300 million lottery players. Some observers believe the lottery has become a means for many poor people to dream of getting rich overnight. However, others said that sales of China's sports lottery are the biggest contributor, accounting for 66% of the total lottery sales.
