VOA Creole: Haiti cancels national carnival amid security concerns

The Haitian government announced Wednesday it is canceling the national carnival that was going to be held in the northern border town of Fort Liberte.

Officials cited security concerns. Various groups also had complained about the huge expenditure at a time when gang violence continues to rise, threatening the safety of thousands of revelers who traditionally participate in the festivities.
