An Arab news channel has released a video purportedly showing the man arrested for plotting a car bombing in New York's Times Square in which the man calls the attack "revenge" for all "mujahideen", or holy warriors.
Al-Arabiya television released the tape Wednesday, showing a man identified as Faisal Shahzad. Shahzad pleaded guilty in June to weapons and terrorism charges related to his failed attempt to ignite a car bomb in Times Square in May.
In the video, the man cites the war in Afghanistan, saying the "Muslim war has just begun" and "Islam will spread across the world."
The video appears to have been recorded before the failed attack. It shows a man wearing traditional tribal clothing holding what appears to be a gun. Authorities have not confirmed the authenticity of the video.
Shahzad is a U.S. citizen who was born in Pakistan. During a June court appearance, he said he considers himself a Muslim soldier. He also said there would be more attacks unless the United States leaves Muslim lands such as Afghanistan and Iraq.
Prosecutors allege Shahzad received explosives training from the Pakistani Taliban (Tehrik-e-Taliban) and money from co-conspirators.
