A U.S. soldier was killed Thursday in an explosion caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) in northern Syria, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement.
The blast occurred near Ayn Issa, according to the statement.
No other information, including the soldier's name and the nature of the incident, was released.
U.S. troops, part of a multinational coalition, are in the region to fight the Islamic State group.
