Eight US Senators Vow to Fight for Immigration Reform
A bipartisan group of eight U.S. Senators, called "The Gang of Eight," has introduced a comprehensive immigration reform bill, awaited for decades by many, but criticized by others as "amnesty" for those who came to the United States illegally. The bill would provide a lengthy path to citizenship for the more than 11 million immigrants currently living in the United States illegally, while at the same time boosting security at the U.S. border with Mexico and establishing a modern visa system to speed up legal immigration. VOA Congressional Correspondent Cindy Saine reports from Capitol Hill.
