Kerry Urges Saudi, Iranian Counterparts to Exercise Calm
The U.S. has launched a cautious diplomatic effort to deal with the rift in relations and war of words between Saudi Arabia and Iran that resulted from the Saudi execution of a leading Shi’ite cleric, Sheikh Namr al-Nimr. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has been reaching out to officials in both countries to urge calm in the dispute, which could threaten other U.S. interests in the region.
