US, Japan Compete in Women's World Cup Final

The U.S. women's soccer (football) team is seeking its third World Cup championship when it goes against Japan during Sunday's match in Frankfurt, Germany.

The U.S. team, which is top ranked in this year's (FIFA) tournament, is the strong favorite against Japan, which has never won a major women's title.

The United States needed to defeat France on Wednesday and score a come-from-behind victory over Brazil last Sunday in order to compete in this year's final. It won the World Cup in 1991 and 1999.

Japan qualified for the final by defeating Sweden on Wednesday. It earlier scored a quarterfinal victory over home team Germany.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who is on an official visit to Greece, says she will be watching the match on television. She said she has the highest hopes for what she called "this great team."

The wife of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, Jill, and the Clintons' daughter, Chelsea, will be on hand at the stadium.
