Iraqi police: Missing Americans in Baghdad Were Kidnapped

update

Iraqi police say three Americans missing in the country were kidnapped from an apartment in Baghdad.

U.S. officials have said they are working with Iraqi authorities to find the missing Americans, although Washington has not confirmed they were abducted.

"We are aware of reports that American citizens are missing in Iraq. The safety and security of American citizens overseas is our highest priority.‎ We are working with the full cooperation of the Iraqi authorities to locate and recover the individuals," State Department spokesman John Kirby said Monday.

Iraqi police officials said that the Americans were taken by gunmen in Baghdad's Dora neighborhood. The Baghdad Operations Command described the apartment the Americans were in as "suspicious." The Washington Post quotes a resident describing it as a "brothel" that is subject to frequent raids by Shi'ite militiamen.

Dozens of foreigners have been kidnapped in Iraq over the last few months by terrorists and militias helping Iraqi forces battle Islamic State.
