Congress has delayed a vote on a bill that provides aid to Ukraine and imposes sanctions on Russia until at least Tuesday.
The U.S. House of Representatives met briefly Friday without approving the measure. Lawmakers will not meet again until midday Tuesday.
Earlier, the House agreed to accept the Senate version of legislation that gives Ukraine $1 billion in loan guarantees. It imposes further sanctions on Russia for its annexation of Crimea.
Lawmakers in the House and Senate had overwhelmingly approved separate measures on Thursday.
The Senate later added language to its legislation that includes $10 million in funding for broadcasting targeting the region. The provision was already in the House bill.
On Thursday, Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid said the bill that gives aid to Ukraine and penalizes Moscow is a "reality check for Russian President Vladimir Putin."
He said the U.S. would not stand by,"idly," while Russia played the role of "schoolyard bully."
