Police in Chicago, Illinois, say they have arrested two men in connection with the murder of a teenage girl whose death has added to the heated debate in the United States over proposed gun control measures.
Fifteen-year-old Hadiya Pendleton was gunned down late last month in a park where she and her friends were seeking shelter during a rainstorm
Chicago Police Superintendent Gary McCarthy told reporters Monday the suspects believed the group were members of a rival gang that shot and wounded one of the men last year.
McCarthy said one of the suspects had been arrested in 2011 for carrying an illegal weapon, but was on probation for the charge.
Just a week earlier, Hadiya had performed with her high school band in Washington at festivities for the president's inauguration.
First lady Michelle Obama attended Hadiya's funeral in Chicago on Saturday. Her parents will sit with the first lady during Mr. Obama's State of the Union address Tuesday before Congress.
